How to Get Rid of a Beer Belly

For a lot of men, and some women, the belly is a real problem area for storing fat. What starts out as as a washboard in our teens can rapidly expand as people age and lifestyles change post college or high school, one key area being the introduction of alcohol into the diet. Many young adults gain a taste for beer which helps them to relax and enjoy social situations, be it parties or hanging out at the bar with friends. As the years go by they continue their love affair with beer and are thanked for that loyalty by receiving a beer belly! Hold up, that wasn’t part of the deal right? So, how to get rid of a beer belly?
The reality is that most people don’t realise when they start drinking beers is the amount of calories that a beer can pack in. A typical serving contains 200 calories whilst a stronger brew can be more like 250 calories. You can soon see how putting away 4 or 5 beers can easily breach 1000 calories and that’s on top of your normal daily food intake. The situation is made worse by the fact that once you have filled your expanding gut with beer you’ll be craving some food to soak up the beer and any ideas of healthy eating will have gone south with your beer, so likely you’ll be tucking into a burger and fries, or wings and nachos, maybe a pizza or a kebab. Each packed full of fat and calories that will only enhance the damage caused by the beer.
So before you know it you’ll have consumed your recommended daily calorie intake in one evening on top of your normal daily intake, causing more fat to be stored on your belly. Now some people would recommend cutting out beer and unhealthy food for good but what sort of fun would that be? You have to be realistic and balance enjoying life with looking after your belly.

7 Great tips on how to get rid of a beer belly

How To Get Rid Of A Beer Belly1) Eat healthy first: don’t go out drinking on an empty stomach. Fill yourself up with a decent meal before you go out, which will help to line your stomach and stop you getting so drunk. Feeling full will slow down your drinking therefore you’ll drink less, take in less calories and therefore do less damage. Also if you brain is telling you that you are full you are much less likely to want to eat again whilst or after your drinking.
2) Choose your drink carefully: the stronger the beer the higher the calorie content so opt for a weaker beer, this can save you hundreds of calories over a night. There are more options these days so choose a lite or low carb option if it’s available, you won’t notice the difference but your belly will thank you for it
3) Dont get in rounds: as soon as you get into a round you are passing control of your drinking to the fastest, most alcoholic drinker! My friend Adam drinks like a fish, it’s like my one every ten minutes. This is the guy who says to the flight attendant on a long haul flight, “bring me a fresh beer every 15 minutes until I pass out and then every 20 minutes after that!” – getting into rounds with people like this kills your wallet and your gut, so avoid. A perfect way to avoid this is to arriveĀ  slightly later than the others and the round will have started so you can get your own and then be able to drink at your own pace.
4) Get chatting to girls, or guys depending on your viewpoint! Chatting to someone you fancy will slow your drinking down as you’ll want to come across as a good partner and not a drunken baffoon (see Adam in point 3 above)
5) Another great way of how to get rid of a beer belly is to get yourself down to the gym before and after: having a good workout prior to a night out drinking will leave you with a post workout buzz, making you feel healthier and less likely to want to do too much damage. Do the same again the day after and you’ll shake off any hangover, burning more calories as you do so.
6) Build muscle: the more muscles you carry the more calories you burn each and every day, which means you can eat and drink more without worrying about the calories (within reason)
7) Build upper body strength: the more muscles you can build up top will create the classic V shape, making your waist look smaller. Infact just the point that you are building muscles will burn the fat off your gut so it’s a win win situation.
